1989 Honda Civic Si, 180,000km
I was recently (This morning, Feb 12,02) Driving at around 100km/h when I heard a Bang followed by a dragging noise. Turns out my frame let go where the rear suspension bolts in at the bottom. I nearly lost control, but managed to get the car safely off the road. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem, or has ever heard of this? The part is directly behind the gas tank, and it is the channel that runs along the width of the car between the two wheels. The gas tank almost fell out fully filled as well. Thanks to anyone who may have info for me. Also can the 1.6 and transmission from the 89 fit in a 5th
gen civic?

ummm...i have never heard of this. was it the actual frame (subframe i should say) or part of the suspension?

It's a crude picture, but this is the rear passanges side of the car, the 0 in the middle is the Bushing or something, for the rear suspension. the == are the springs, and the lines represent the shape of the channel. The crack is about a foot and a half along the channel. Actually the whole assembly pulled off the car, if you look at your civic you'll see what I mean, I'll try to post a link to a site that shows a better diagram. Scared me shitless!!! My brother hugged me after he saw it. I can't remember the last time he did that. He and my dad couldn't believe I didn't roll the car. It could have been a million times worse

If anyone has the Chilton 84-91 civic book, the part is shown on the Suspension section. 10-4... the part that snapped was the Crossmember...from the centre out, it broke just beyond the hole on the bottom. Between the little hole and the fuel tank strap. The entire assy is now on the ground

bummer man sorry to hear about your breakage but sheez man you came out of it in good health you can always buy another car but i heard its pretty hard to buy replacement parts for the human body!
